Infest the Rats Nest
Released
King Gizzard lays waste to their incredibly prolific 2010s with a thrash metal album whose frightening exterior hides a frightened heart. Recorded mostly as a stripped down trio, Infest The Rats’ Nest is a paranoid listen; its songs come from the near-universal fear of living on a dying planet (“Planet B”, as in, “there is no”), with very little chance for escape save for the extremely wealthy (“Mars For The Rich”) or staring straight into oblivion (“Self-Immolate”). Musically it’s as laid bare and upfront as the lyrics. The riffs are big and dumb and the tempos range from Thin Lizzy struts to Venom-esque thundering. In the face of annihilation it always helps to scream.
