J.S. Bach: Sei Solo - The Sonatas and Partitas

Released

Thomas Zehetmair broke new ground when he recorded Johann Sebastian Bach’s Sonatas and Partitas for Violin Solo for Telefunken in 1983. More than three decades later, he upped the tally with this new take for ECM. While the Ciaccona of the Partita No. 2 and other benchmarks are easily defensible, delicate constructions like the Allemanda of the Partita No. 1 reveal even deeper maturity. Where his younger self may have sped over certain terrains, he now lingers a bit more, breathing it all in before moving on to the next brilliant vista. A new standard in the making.
