On their second album, Massachusetts metalcore heroes Cave In stowed the screaming in favor of singing and brought the walls down. Combining the aggressive discordance of their previous sound with the moody post-shoegaze space rock of bands like Failure and Hum allowed them to open an Einstein-Rosen bridge to new depths of their emotional cosmos. Angular riffs (especially the big ones on “Big Riff”) vie with vulnerable vocals and feeling-drenched feedback in this new corner of the universe, but it’s the uneasy interplay that makes them something you’ll remember until your heart stops.
