Last Night the Moon Came Dropping Its Clothes in the Street

Released

Last night the moon came dropping its clothes in the street lives up to its title, taken from the poetry of 13th-century Sufi mystic Rumi. A quarter century separates it from trumpeter Jon Hassell’s first appearance on ECM (1986’s Power Spot). Given its place in time, one might think of it as the ambient underbelly of Nils Petter Molvær’s Khmer. Hassell’s primordial sound remains intact despite the technical wizardry involved in this production, intertwining with violin, electric guitar, keyboard, bass, drums, and live treatments. An atmospheric pinnacle in his discography, and proof that true mastery never stops growing.
