Left-Handed Club

Released

Most people are probably aware of the idea that left-handed people are susceptible to a number of heightened health risks. You’re less likely, however, to know that a lot of those findings have been shown to be overblown. Many studies that attempted to draw links between health and handedness — particularly with regards to cognitive ability — were found to have too small a sample size or issues with quality of the research. We live in a world built for right-handers, to be sure, but being part of the minority group that roughly ten percent of the population belongs to means less than we were led to believe. With this in mind, Guido Gamboa’s sound collage of text produced by famous left-handers (like behavioral scientist Ivan Pavlov and French poet Paul Verlaine) essentially becomes a random grouping. As the interdisciplinarity texts swirl together in an indecipherable soup, you can’t help but search for patterns and craft your own interpretation of an overall narrative — even though the only thing these great thinkers might have in common is the hand they use to hold their toothbrush.
