This 1985 session finds Vasconcelos bringing his Brazilian percussion into a dialogue with the Sardinian-born pianist/ accordionist Antonello Salis. Recorded over two days in Milan in 1985, the duo wander from festive accordion breakdowns to a spirited take on a Codona tune. While the wistful title track may not be named for Lester Young, it’s as gentle and melodic as one of the sax legend’s solos and “Ondas” reveals a pensive, lyrical side to Vasconcelos’s own writing.
