Live 04

The idea of Mouse On Mars as a furiously funky live outfit might read to some as jarring. If that’s the case for you, hold your hat; Live 04 is proof of the heavy dynamics at the heart of the Mouse On Mars live experience. Their trio line-up of Jan St. Werner (electronics), Andi Toma (electronics and bass) and Dodo Nkishi (vocals and drums) arms the studio versions with a ferocity that’s only hinted at on the albums: see the pummelling noise excursion of “Actionist Respoke”, the glitter-stomp riff-gasm that is “Wipe That Sound”, or the face-flattening, coruscating twister winding through “Distroia”. The nine-minute closer, “Frosch”, peels back a decade and turns their debut single into a destabilising, drone-drift epic. Trust Mouse On Mars to turn that most rock-reverent of moves, the live album, into an unpredictable ride.
