One of the greatest live soul albums was recorded by an artist who through ill health was never able to reach his full potential. Hathaway’s gorgeous voice sails effortlessly through original material and covers in this live set recorded over two concerts in 1972. Marvin Gaye’s ‘What’s Going On’ gets a cover version to rival the original and Hathaway’s own ‘Little Ghetto Boy’ with its poignant ‘Everything’s Got To Get Better’ refrain and his ‘Voices Inside (Everything Is Everything)’ both sound wonderfully comparable to the studio versions. An audio snapshot of a hugely talented artist on the cusp of greatness.
