Live In New York

Moritz von Oswald Trio

2010
Honest Jon's Records

In February 2010, the Moritz Von Oswald Trio — producer and Basic Channel label founder Von Oswald, Finnish techno producer Vladislav Delay, and German electronic musician Max Loderbauer — came to New York to play the Unsound Festival, and were joined onstage by Detroit techno pioneer Carl Craig while legendary French DJ François Kevorkian provided live mixing and effects. The music, broken into four tracks simply titled “Nothing” 1-4, is a lot more active than the work on their studio debut, 2009’s Vertical Ascent; it fades in and out due to the limitations of vinyl, but it’s a continuous 40-minute performance, somewhere between techno and psychedelic jazz fusion with dub-informed sound processing, and every once in a while, when a particularly heavy drum break washes through the room, there’s a whoop and wave of applause from the crowd.
