Live at Carnegie Hall

Released

Even those not caught up in the astroturfing/psyops farrago surrounding fêted Brooklynites Geese might have raised an eyebrow when frontman Cameron Winter announced a solo show at New York’s prestigious Carnegie Hall in 2025. However, as the soundtrack to director Paul Thomas Anderson’s recently released concert film shows, Winter deserves to share at least some of the rarified air taken in by the likes of Frank Sinatra, Nina Simone, Bob Dylan and Aretha Franklin. Accompanying himself on grand piano, Winter stands on just his songs and voice here, and on both fronts delivers a knockout. Drawing on both Geese and his superb solo LP Heavy Metal, his spellbinding performance lays bare a singular talent no amount of digital marketing could dress up, while the arrangements bring out hitherto obscured similarities to Rufus Wainwright and Laura Nyro. On the strength of this one performance alone, the hype and praise being thrown the 24-year-old’s way is entirely justified.
