Live in Stockholm

This pair of recordings, from 1968 and 1971, show Cherry in his Swedish wandering phase. He works here with Swedish and Turkish musicians and it’s fascinating how fully he can turn a date into a Don Cherry Thing, with longer than average tones, and a drummer who moves in and around time, unafraid to pair simplicity and unlocked mind spray. Also moves into that classic Ornette/Ayler marching band theme territory, which I always love.
