Following her international ECM debut, En otra parte, classical guitarist Zsófia Boros adopts an equally ecumenical approach to her instrument and repertoire in Local Objects. Emblematic in this regard is the aching intimacy of Mathias Duplessy’s Nocturne, which by its depth of suggestion foreshadows a bittersweet ending. In addition to her emotional acuity, Boros gives a technically astute performance, especially in the application of harmonics. Connecting the dots to South America, Azerbaijan, and elsewhere, she nurtures a continuity of purpose in everything she touches. She ends bittersweetly with Alex Pinter’s Gothenburg, leaving the possibility open for a loving return.
