The Cult

1985
Vertigo

After the intriguing but still somewhat uneven Dreamtime debut, on their second album Love the Cult got down to business and started fully delivering on the promise that earlier efforts like “Resurrection Joe” suggested. There’s no question which song absolutely slays from the entire release: “She Sells Sanctuary” is a thoroughly bravura performance caught somewhere between classic rock and post-punk exaltation, Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy both at the top of their game, but other winners include “Nirvana,” the title track, “Rain” and “Revolution.”
