Love and Death
Though several of his albums from the 70s and 80s have been reissued, this 2010 album was his first to be released on the international market, and proved that even at 74 years old he hadn’t lost a touch of his groove. On “Love and Death” Taylor collaborates with Berlin’s Afrobeat Academy on several original tracks and on new recordings of some classics, including the exceptional jazz-funk title track (which was apparently written after his wife left him) and the upbeat “Dizin”, which allows Taylor to show off his guitar-playing skills in an extended solo. Taylor and his musicians do a really great job at capturing the funky, Ghanian Afrobeat he pioneered and breathing new life into it without changing it around too much. A great homage to a timeless sound.
