Too Pure
An EP with all the weight and density of a full album, Low Fi features some of Stereolab’s most mysteriously beautiful songs, and in “Laisser-Faire”, a summative moment for everything that made their ‘first phase’ so special – Krautrock groove meets Suicide two-chord organ hum, Laetitia Sadier breathing out a lovely, sing-song melody. There are great chunks of febrile noise on this EP, too, and the ageless meander of the title track, though its highlight might be the dizzying melancholy of the closing “Elektro (He Held The World In His Iron Grip).”
