As Ambitious Lovers, the duo of Arto Lindsay and Peter Scherer looked set to record a whole series of albums named after the seven deadly sins: Lust came after 1988’s Greed and their 1984 debut titled Envy. But this was the end of the road, sadly. The pair’s combination of smooth funk, lilting Brazilian rhythms, and no-wave guitar noise was fascinating and fun, but just a bit too odd for the mass market. Still, Lust is not only an admirable swan song but also an approachable introduction to Lindsay’s uniquely twisted musical vision.
