Every generation gets the goth metal band it deserves — Type O Negative, 69 Eyes, Unto Others. More socially conscious than a lot of their predecessors (follow-up Strength deals with subjects like school shootings and addiction), their initial foray into the darkness came from hands not idle. With emotionally charged howls into the void like “Double Negative,” “Cosmic Overdrive,” and especially the longing “Jackie,” they carry on the proud tradition of Sisters of Mercy metal.
