Placebo scored its biggest album yet in America with Meds, following up their 2004 Once More With Feeling singles collection with an album that was almost as strong as that striking compilation. Perhaps unusually, that was less due to the album’s own singles in general than a range of excellent deep cuts; while the opening title track set the stage incredibly well, songs like “Drag,” “Follow The Cops Back Home” and “Broken Promise” land just as hard. Further, with the sad, wrecked “Pierrot the Clown,” they created their strongest, most twisted ballad yet.
