Movin-On

Released

Following frontman Jagari’s departure and a lineup shakeup which saw new, younger members joining the band, the group which had been at the helm of the country’s psychedelic rock scene swapped fuzzy guitars and tight drumming for disco rhythms and dazzling synths (courtesy of new member Patrick Mwondela), fully embracing the sounds of the era. The glossy voice of Christine Jackson replaces Jagari’s eccentric, dissonant vocals, and, though departing from their previous style, original members Gideon “Giddy King” Malenga on bass and Chris Mbewe on guitar channel some of the power and funk that Witch were known for. It may be a different band to the one that pioneered Zamrock in the 1970s, but there is no doubt that they mastered this new sound and made it their own. This is a scorcher of an album.
