My Light, My Destroyer
Released
There’s a moment near the end of “Devotion” on the new Cassandra Jenkins album My Light, My Destroyer where after a mostly softly strummed torch song the kick drum thumps in and a coda of horns brings the song to a close. It’s one last reminder that this excursion into the ether will go deeper and stranger than Jenkins’ previous efforts. “Clams Casino” is crunchy roots before getting dropped into the infinity pool synths of “Delphinium Blue” and the lounge pop of “Only One.” The rare stare session into the void that brings beautiful, shining results.
