NOLA

Released

Southern sludge supergroup – featuring New Orleans-based members of Pantera, Corrosion of Conformity, Crowbar, and Eyehategod – broke the collaboration curse and put out a debut somehow stronger than the sum of its ironclad parts. Giant riffs and an all-time great vocal performance from Phil Anselmo take doom metal from the depressed working-class slums of Birmingham, England to the same in Louisiana. “Temptation’s Wings” makes for one hell of an opening roundhouse and “Losing All” and “Lifer” tell some gnarly meth myths, but it’s the more introspective, skinned-Skynyrd “Stone the Crow” that hits right between the eyes.
