Necropolitan
Named after the grossest flavor of ice cream, Necropolitan offers a harrowing journey through an alternate occult London. Green Lung continue their upward trajectory with each subsequent sacrifice, and their fourth offering to the Wicker Man may be their most pleasing yet. It’s sinister in all the right ways and sexy in all the wrong ones. A little bit Uncle Acid, a little bit Deep Purple, a lot Black Sabbath, this is a throwback both in sound and vision – but it feels timeless, not outdated. Previous hymnal This Heathen Land leaned heavy on the doom side of their sound. This goes for groove. “Black Magic Radio” summons the spirit of Tobias Forge for a Ghost-like rager. “Necropolitan Line” speeds along hot rails to hell with a horror story about a terrifying train line propelled by Jon Lord-esque Hammond organ. “Evil in this House” conjures slow-burn Hammer Horror creepiness. “Ozymandias” even finds them stretching out their tentacles, taking a (successful) shot at an Iron Maiden-style epic. It’s a noxiously delicious confection that you won’t be able to put down.
