Nice Mover
Released
Not much surprise after listening to this minor synthpop masterpiece, but its mastermind Zeus B. Held would go on to work with other chilly electro acts like John Foxx, Dead or Alive, and Die Krupps. Here, he applies his production magic to Gina Kikoine and her deadpan musings about sex, club life, queer authors, gender confusion, and Judaism. First two tracks made a small splash in German clubs in the eighties, and you can hear why: “Nice Mover”’s surrealist, slow-motion robotic eroticism and “No G.D.M.”’s pansexual disco milk maximum impact out of minimalist beeps and boops. Cold, sure, but the frostbite leaves its mark.
