Night Dubbing

UK soul outfit Imagination hit big in the early 1980s with hits like ‘Music & Lights’ and ‘Just An Illusion’ but their third album, ‘Night Dubbing’ is something of a rarity: a soul-dub album. Consisting of studio reconstructions of their hits using re-editing and FX à la dub reggae, ‘Night Dubbing’ delivers a set of stripped back, club-friendly grooves featuring fat Moog basslines, drum machines, slick 80s synths and little touches of studio trickery. Genuinely ahead of its time, ‘Night Dubbing’ pre-dated and predicted the growth of the dance music remix culture that would soon follow.
