Kevin Richard Martin is best known for his electronic music productions under a variety of names (Techno Animal, Zonal, The Bug, King Midas Sound), but when he started out it was with the noise-jazz band God, in which he played sax. That instrument returns here, along with booming upright bass, but both sounds are sampled and manipulated, swathed in effects and surrounded by analog synths which take these six tracks a million light years from anything covered by the umbrella term “jazz” and closer to Robert Hampson’s sound-sculpting work as Main. This music is haunted and immersive, with gleams of neon occasionally piercing the mist; “The Lost” could almost be an alternate soundtrack to Blade Runner.
