Of Beauty Reminiscing
Released
On Vikki Jackman’s debut solo album, she executes a series of gorgeous slow fades, letting her restrained, minimal piano playing pirouette through mysterious dream sequences. Prior to this album, she was only really known for her piano on Andrew Chalk’s Goldfall, and Jackman’s material shares a lot with the sound world inhabited by Chalk (he’s credited as producer for Of Beauty Reminiscing). Following the flickering visions of opener “Wrapped In Whitenesses”, “And Then A Blue Sky Overhead” is spare and mournful; the piano’s slightly out of tune, too, and it sounds as though it’s broadcasting from an abandoned attic.
