George Michael spent years breaking free from Sony, though he’d lost the lawsuit he’d filed against them, while the death of his partner Anselmo Feleppa due to AIDS was a further deep emotional blow. But processing everything into 1996’s Older produced an album that embraced his experiences and resulted in gold, starting with his Antonio Carlos Jobim-tinged tribute to Feleppa, “Jesus To A Child.” Another string of sharp singles followed, including the sleek Patrice Rushen nod “Fastlove” and a further deeply wrenching Feleppa tribute, “You Have Been Loved.”
