One Offs... Remixes & B Sides

Released

The second Bonobo album was a classy collection of his releases, remixes and remixes of Bonobo material by other artists. There are five Bonobo originals, including the solemn beat-science waltz of Dismantling Frank, The Sicilian, which puts a fat, beat-juggled boom bap beat together with a vaguely Mediterranean-sounding guitar sample and some restrained strings, and The Shark which cleverly arranges its source material into a soundtrackesque theme evocative of several different eras at once.

Tru Thoughts label mates Quantic’s remix of The Plug is a dramatic jazz-not-jazz dark breaks filmscore, Jon Kennedy’s take on Dinosaurs reigns in the drums and plays up the sense of drama, while the horns and orchestration in Bonobo’s mix of Kennedy’s Tell Me How You Feel give some clear hints to his future direction. A nice collection of drifty, wispy, down-tempo dance music, acoustronica, jazz-ish beat science and more.
