Other People’s Songs
Erasure had always happily tackled cover versions over the years, scoring a UK number one with Abba’s “Take a Chance on Me” while other efforts ranged from Ike and Tina Turner’s “River Deep Mountain High” and Blondie’s “Rapture” to, bemusingly, Edvard Grieg’s “In the Hall of the Mountain King.” So a full covers album wasn’t entirely a surprise, but Other People’s Songs turned out to be one of their stronger 21st century albums, an engaging collection of reinterpretations including work by Peter Gabriel, the Righteous Brothers and Buddy Holly.
