I cannot confirm that Yanya listened to guitar music other than The Strokes and some pop punk (an interview confirms she listens to those), but to my older ears this sounds like Joy Division and The Cure and Durutti Column all jammed together and turned a little softer and faster. Yanya’s live band is very real and her way of singing is of this century, casual and blunt, not at all mopey but also nothing much like other singers her age. Confident and calm, this is absolutely guitar rock so send it to whoever writes the next death of rock piece.
