Paper Mâché Dream Balloon cover

Paper Mâché Dream Balloon

Released

King Gizzard scraped off the fuzzy distortion and psych freakouts for this tasteful and playful album. Even with an arsenal of entirely acoustic instruments, the hooks and riffs are just as sticky. Expect a lot of flashbacks to 60s freak folk as “Bone” and “Paper Mache Dream Balloon” scurry on through with flutes aplenty, while the ravers that do exist — “Trapdoor” and “N.G.R.I. (Bloodstain)” — still hold trickier tones and depth behind the sudden bursts of high energy. Saturday morning music for your third cup of coffee.
