Pathways to Unknown Worlds

Released

As many times as people try to quote and channel Sun Ra, nobody ever matches his particular brand of freedom. The Arkestra is in amazing shape here, drawing out a few long tracks (more on the new version) that sounds like the herald of a new time, or the funeral for an old one. Sun Ra’s organ blasts and Clifford Jarvis’s drumming are worth it alone, and a chunk of this feels like a dialogue between them, with John Gilmore’s tenor sax tearing up the middle occasionally. Lots of big beautiful space around the whole thing.
