People… Hold On

Released

Former Temptations lead falsetto Eddie Kendrick’s second album came during that golden early 70s period in Motown’s history when the producers and songwriters really began to branch out. People… Hold On featured a provocative cover recalling a famous image of Black Panther Eldridge Cleaver as well as the slightly, for Motown at least, avant-garde-flavoured title track, “People… Hold On”, a repetitive, percussive chant a million miles from the classic soul of his “Just My Imagination”. The album also includes the gloriously uplifting and hugely influential “Girl You Need A Change Of Mind”, arguably the first disco record.
