Monster Magnet

1998
A&M Records

After the unexpected success of Dopes to Infinity, Dave Wyndorf holed up in a Las Vegas hotel room with a bag full of drugs and came up with one of the most nightmarish (and hardest rocking) indictments of the American dream ever produced by a bunch of New Jersey burnouts. The idle rich, lost girls with daddy issues, ennui, fetuses in landfills – monster truck rally rock usually doesn’t deal with subjects quite this messed up. “Space Lord,” their biggest hit, propelled the album to gold status. It’s about a dominatrix. And with riffs as giant as the ones on the title track and “See You in Hell,” it’s impossible not to submit.
