The first full collaboration between Conny Plank and Cluster’s Dieter Moebius was an inspired collision of sounds and styles. Krautrock-meets-reggae isn’t as an unworkable a proposition as it might seem on paper – just listen to Faust’s The Sad Skinhead – and the pair bring together a wonderfully off-kilter lurch of trouser-flapping bass (Can’s Holger Czukay features on three tracks), skronky electronics and wobbly skanks that both drew upon dub innovations from the likes of Joe Gibbs and Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry and paved the way for future post-punk/reggae hybrids by Public Image Ltd. and The Slits.
