The last Spacemen 3 album was barely that except in name, with the increasingly irrevocably fractured relationship between Sonic Boom and Jason Pierce resulting in what was essentially two separate EPs put together as a full-length only after any number of fits and starts. However fraught the circumstances, Recurring did serve as both a transitional look ahead for both sides, with Sonic’s Spectrum and Pierce’s Spiritualized soon to follow, and songs like “Big City” and “Drive” among others demonstrate how compelling they remained even as they parted.
