Revelations: The Complete ORTF 1970 Fondation Maeght Recordings

Two full concerts recorded a few months before Ayler’s death, now restored and reunited and reproduced as they happened. Now you get Ayler’s wife, Mary Maria (Parks), singing as well as playing soprano saxophone, and you can hear the full scope of these shows. One set has no piano, one doesn’t, but both absolutely levitate. The version of “Holy, Holy” from the second night, alone, should go into the Fire Music Time Capsule. With music like this, it’s much easier and more helpful to hear the entire concert in order, as it happened. Ayler was on one single mission, and dividing it into pieces does nobody any good. A real joy.
