These two have a way of getting fairly existential—their friendship and fellowship lightens that right up and relaxes them. These are heartbreak tunes, done with a slightly jaunty feel. “Don’t You Ever Get Tired (Of Hurting Me)” sounds less miserable when they trade verses—did they date the same woman?—and “Crazy Arms” even sounds hopeful here, even if a storm is “brewin’” in Willie’s heart. This is a celebration of songwriting, and two classic voices. As country as it gets.
