Sart throws saxophonist Jan Garbarek (sporting a rare turn on bass saxophone alongside his trusty tenor) into this early excursion with pianist Bobo Stenson, guitarist Terje Rypdal, bassist Arild Andersen, and drummer Jon Christensen, touching his match to six in-house originals. The title cut sinks its teeth into more than a third of the album’s duration, sounding with the charge of an ambulance siren. Relying more on expressivity than melody, this is free jazz from musicians whose names might not readily come to mind in association with the term. This is demanding yet thoroughly enjoyable stuff.
