Sea Change
Released
A bookmark to 1998’s muted Mutations, Beck’s eighth studio album sounds sober, serious and full of reflection. Though the BPM rises slightly on “Sunday Sun,” Sea Change (released three days after the first September 11 anniversary) stays mired in melancholy—and acoustic Beck never sounded so good. The Grammys finally awarded him Album of the Year for Morning Phase (2014), but one listen to the folk rock of “The Golden Age,” “It’s All in Your Mind,” “Guess I’m Doing Fine” and their surrounding songs makes it clear Sea Change (and Mutations for that matter) got robbed.
