Selected Songs 1997-2003

When the drummer for the gentle, compelling Melbourne indie-pop group the Cat’s Miaow took off to London for a while, the remaining trio decided to pursue a related path with an emphasis on electronic rhythms meshed with their quietly engaging aesthetic. The resultant Hydroplane was almost as productive as the main group, with the 2023 anthology Selected Songs serving as a handy introduction to their enjoyable vibe, starting with their fine Pip Proud cover “We Crossed the Atlantic” and then moving through a series of winsomely moody originals.
