Selene Museum Moon Forest

Released

In a small tourist town in Japan’s Toyama Prefecture, the Selene Museum of Art resides. The museum’s permanent collection consists of art showcasing the beauty of the Kurobe Gorge and its surrounding railway. It’s an incredibly obscure vacation destination — not even widely known in Japan, much less the rest of the world. A disc sold in the museum’s gift shop and nowhere else, Selene Museum Moon Forest, aims to capture the serenity of this idyllic corner of the world. Kensuke Mitome and Gota Wakabayashi, two composers that also constructed the music heard at the Kurobe Gorge Railway, provide the score for this local curiosity. Twelve tracks are divided into four movements, each meant to depict the feeling each season colors the scenic location. It’s unlikely most people will ever see the Kurobe Gorge, but it’s nice to at least have an audible travel diary preserved online.
