Session in Paris, Vol. 1 "Song of Soil"

Released

When Cherry and longtime collaborator Charlie Haden were in Paris in July of 1979 performing at La Chapelle des Lombards with their band Old and New Dreams, wheelchair-bound Japanese free percussionist Masahiko Togashi booked a flight over to the “City of Light” and arranged this impromptu studio session. The intuitive interplay between Cherry and Haden is evident from the first note, but Togashi’s eloquent mallet and brushwork on toms and cymbals readily slots into the musical conversation. At the time, this Japan-only release received little notice, but its small, lowkey stature has only grown in the decades hence, seeing reissue in 2022.
