On 2021’s Showtunes, Lambchop continues their headlong plunge into electronic and ambient. Though, if you’ve been paying attention, none of this should feel jarring. Recording guitar, converting the notes into midi piano tones, and chopping and screwing them into something blissfully weird, Kurt Wagner and company deliver a lurching, wheezing, jittery beast of fried cabaret and soulful poetry. Will probably be re-discovered 20 years from now and hailed as a herald of whatever new sounds we’re hearing then. Betting real money on this one.
