Slugs of Love

Released

Ultra pop/slick dance/future R’n’B four-piece Little Dragon are a few albums in now, and have perfected their idiosyncratic blend of influences into a highly efficient musical machine, fronted by the wonderfully distinctive, intimate, smokey, slinky vocals of singer-songwriter Yukimi Nagano.

They’re a band characterised by a musically neat and tidy approach, their songs and arrangements sounding carefully thought out and planned, the sequenced and played parts interlocking together just so. And within their pristinely constructed songs they’re confident with both playfulness or sophistication, happy to move easily between sweet, childlike melodies or highly emotive tech-soul. It’s an approach that works well again on Slugs of Love which contains lots of little special moments to listen out for — a particularly pleasing chord resolution here, a memorable melody hook delivered with the slightest crack in Nagono’s voice there, another highly satisfying supa-tight perma-wrapped rhythm track. Slugs of Love continues Little Dragon’s excellence in their own very distinctive and charming corner of the music world.
