Slumber Party

Released

Slumber Party do girl pop right by going minimal with it. Aliccia Berg’s songwriting suits that approach, admittedly: she’s a knack for the right chords at the right time, and she’s got the smarts to know that anything extra overeggs things. What makes the songs on Slumber Party so seductive is their effortlessness, though, a kind of breezy charm that thankfully doesn’t ever translate to emotional affectation. Everything’s lovely, though Berg’s songs are particularly winning when she takes it slow and steady, one soft, jangling guitar, with shades of Rose Melberg in the melody, zig-zagged by winding guitar arpeggios, and the lone tap of a tambourine.
