Sometimes I Wish We Were an Eagle
Released
Callahan sees all and knows all and slowly doles out the goodies to us, one album at a time. The tremulous hideaway turned into the de facto radio announcer for the remaining sentients, and the voice dropped to match the gravitas he had before the voice came. Here, arranger Brian Beattie really matches Callahan in a way that few else did, with the strings and springy, reactive band. This one is a slow golden burner, a real classic of its own country. One of my favorite Callahan lyrics, from “The Wind and The Dove”: “Well I cannot tell you which way it would be if it was not this way too.”
