Tears for Fears had built up pockets of American interest with The Hurting, but almost nobody could have predicted that they’d become one of the biggest bands worldwide thanks to their second album, the now-almost-archetypally-mid-80s landmark Songs From The Big Chair. With the duo still exploring trauma and pondering the world’s ills, but with a broader musical palette and some sharp guest performances matching their skilled singing, the widescreen impact of songs like “Everybody Wants To Rule The World,” “Shout” and “Head Over Heels” still hits hard.
