The 90s American underground psychedelia/shoegaze scene was often defined by specific geographic hubs, and the 2020 compilation Southeast of Saturn aimed to shed retrospective light on one of the strongest, the Detroit-area spacerock scene. Beginning with one of the best songs of the era, Majesty Crush’s majestically melancholy “No. 1 Fan,” the collection touches on both long-lived favorites like Windy and Carl, lovesliescrushing and Fuxa and more obscure but also engaging acts including Glider, Miss Bliss, Jazzless, Ten Second Dynasty and Spectacle.
