Speak No Evil

Released

Recorded during Wayne Shorter’s tenure with the Miles Davis Quintet and featuring two of his bandmates (pianist Herbie Hancock and bassist Ron Carter, plus trumpeter Freddie Hubbard and drummer Elvin Jones), this album only seems conventional at first. The more you listen to it, the more rhythmic left turns, harmonic challenges, and unexpected compositional choices are revealed. At any given moment on any given track, someone is doing something new and different, and no one but Wayne Shorter would have invited these players to make those choices.
